Cargo Insurance

Cargo Insurance is an integral component of transportation services that helps you properly protect your cargo during transit. While we always maintain the utmost care in handling your shipments, there are risks involved in transport causing losses beyond our control. Therefore, we recommend that you purchase All-Risk insurance to cover your shipments while in transit. Under the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act (COGSA), $500 for each customary freight unit is the most recovered from the shipping line if they are “proven” negligent. Air carriers' limit liability is 19 SDR (special drawing right) per kilogram. The carriers have multiple reasons for declining claims, which can allow them to not have any liability at all. Some of these reasons are (but not limited to):

  • Act, neglect or default of the master, mariner, pilot or the servants of the carrier in the navigation or in the management of the ship.
  • Act of God.
  • Act of War.
  • Fire, unless caused by the actual fault of the carrier.
  • Perils, dangers and accidents of the sea or other navigable waters.
  • General average declared.

All-Risk is the broadest form of insurance coverage available. It insures against physical loss or damage from any external cause from origin warehouse to destination warehouse.
